Safa

MakkahInside the mosqueMasjid al-Haram

The small hill where Sa'i begins, at the southern end of the Mas'a. Part of its rock can still be seen.

History and Seerah

Allah says Safa and Marwah are among His symbols (Quran 2:158). Hajar climbed Safa looking for help, then went to Marwah, seven times (Bukhari 3364). The Prophet ﷺ began Sa'i here, climbed until he could see the House, faced it and praised Allah (Muslim 1218).

Visitor tips

Start Sa'i here. Face the Kaaba, raise your hands and make du'a. Safa to Marwah is one lap; the seventh ends at Marwah.
