Jabal Ayr

The mountain on Madinah's southern edge that the Prophet ﷺ named as one limit of the city's sanctuary.

History and Seerah

Ali reported that the Prophet ﷺ wrote that Madinah is a sanctuary from Ayr to another named place (Bukhari 1870), and that within it the trees are not to be cut (Bukhari 1867).

Visitor tips

You see it south of the city, near the road to Makkah. Dhul Hulayfah, the miqat, is a few kilometres away.
