Al-Abtah (al-Muhassab)

The valley between Makkah and Mina, Khayf Bani Kinanah, where Quraysh swore the boycott and where the Prophet ﷺ stayed after the Farewell Hajj.

History and Seerah

Here Quraysh swore to boycott Banu Hashim and Banu al-Muttalib, which shut the Prophet's family in the valley of Abu Talib for about three years. Years later, coming back to Makkah, he said: "Our stop tomorrow, if Allah wills, is Khayf Bani Kinanah, where they swore on disbelief" (Bukhari 1589). On the Farewell Hajj he camped at al-Muhassab after leaving Mina (Bukhari 1560). The old valley is now covered by roads and buildings around Al Abtah Road.
