Valley of Hunayn

The valley on the road from Makkah to Ta'if where the Battle of Hunayn was fought in 8 AH, named in the Quran.

History and Seerah

Weeks after the conquest of Makkah, the Muslim army of about twelve thousand met the tribes of Hawazin and Thaqif here. Their archers ambushed the advance and many fled, while the Prophet ﷺ stood firm on his white mule saying, "I am the Prophet, no lie; I am the son of Abdul-Muttalib" (Bukhari 4315). Allah says: "And on the day of Hunayn, when your great number pleased you, but it did not avail you at all" (Quran 9:25).
